Class Goals
The goals of ECE 112 are to:(1) introduce basic concepts in Electrical and Computer Engineering in a integrated manner,
(2) motivate basic concepts in the context of a simple student constructed projects, and
(3) illustrate a logical way of thinking about problems and their solutions.
Lecture Topics
- Electrons, Current, Voltage and basic definitions.
- Circuit elements and schematics.
- Resistors and Ohms law.
- Modeling circuits with voltage and current sources.
- Power calculations.
- Applying Kirchoff's Voltage and Current laws to analyze simple circuits.
- Analyzing basic circuits with the circuit simulator SPICE.
- Analyzing basic transistor and diode circuits.
- Use of software tools and Linux
Reading and Homework
There is no text book to purchase for this class. Notes for each class session are found in the syllabus. You are expected to read through the material for each class day before the lecture.Homework will not be collected. A strongly suggested set of problems will be assigned for each week. We will spend most of our class time working problems together. There may be some inclass work done in groups of 3-4 that will be graded. in lab you will have a short quiz over the previous week's class and lab material.
