What you'll need

Prior to the first lab session, you need to pickup a toolkit from the 'TekBots Lab' in KEC1110. Bring your photo ID. The kit cost is included in the course fees. Get your tools before the first lab to ensure you don't fall behind.

Tool kits cost $66. (2011 prices)
The tools you will need that are in the kit:

  Orange TekBots Duffel
  Leaded Solder
  6 pc. mini screwdrivers
  BA60 Barrel Nut
  Banana-to-IC Hook Lead Set (Red and Black)
  Diagonal Cutters
  DMM
  Female to Female .1" Jumper set (40 wires)
  Needlenose Pliers
  PTA7 Soldering Tip - Med
  Safety Glasses
  Solder Sucker
  Wire Stripper

Optional but nice things to have:
   - A compartmentalized box to carry lab components in such as a small tackle box for flies.
   - Nice wire strippers with multiple sizes on the same tool, not the one with the set screw for setting the wire gauge.
   - More solder, 60/40 rosin core, Kester type #44, 0.020 to 0.032" diameter
     diameter is a good size, but might be a little small for some)
   - If you are serious about EECS, you may want a better meter with more features.

If you have never soldered, don't worry. We will teach you. It is a fundamental EE skill that everybody should be proficient at.

Other stuff...

No food, drink or horseplay is allowed in the lab. Leave your horses at home.
